Introduction to Bureau of India Standards (BIS) License Under Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme:

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India has notified “Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012” on 3 Oct 2012 for fifteen categories of electronics products. Another 15 product categories were added by MeitY under this order on 13 Nov 2014.

Products under BIS CRS scheme are:

  • Automatic data processing machine
  • Electronic clocks with mains power
  • Electronic games (video)
  • Electronic musical systems with input power 200w and above
  • Laptop/notebook/tablet
  • Microwave ovens
  • Optical disc players with built in amplifiers of input power 200w and above
  • Plasma/LCD/led televisions of screen size 32″; and above
  • Printers, plotters
  • Scanners
  • Set top box
  • Telephone answering machines
  • Visual display units, videos monitors of screen size 32″ and above
  • Wireless keyboards
  • Cash registers
  • Copying machines/duplicators
  • Passport reader
  • Point of sale terminals
  • Mail processing machines/postage machines/franking machines
  • Power banks for use in portable applications
  • Indian language support for mobile phone handsets
  • Smart card reader
  • Mobile phones
  • Self-ballasted led lamps for general lighting services
  • Dc or ac supplied electronic control gear for led modules
  • Power adaptors for audio, video & similar electronic apparatus
  • Power adaptors for it equipment
  • Fixed general purpose led luminaires
  • Ups/invertors of rating <= 5kva
  • Sealed secondary cells/batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes for use in portable applications

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is operating Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) for Electronics & IT Goods as per the provision of Chapter IVA of THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS RULES, 1987 for the product categories notified by MeitY. Registration Department located in BIS Head Quarters at New Delhi is granting Registration under Compulsory Registration Scheme.

Manufacturers of any of thirty products notified in Compulsory Registration Order (dated 03rd October 2012 and dated 14th November 2014 issued by MietY), located in India or outside India can apply for grant of Registration under Compulsory Registration Scheme(CRS). Manufacturers have to apply for separate Registration number for products being manufactured at different locations. Manufacturers have to apply for separate Registration number for each brand being manufactured at the same location.
